NWS Forecaster Discussion
519 fxus63 klbf 210712 afdlbf Area forecast discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 212 am CDT sun Mar 21 2010 Discussion... ridge of high pressure will begin building east from The Rockies into the Central Plains today...and skies will be sunny. A small increase in cirrus clouds are expected by late afternoon however...as upper level moisture tops the crest of the ridge and spills southeastward into the plains. High temperatures today will be about 10 to 15 degrees warmer than those of Sunday...as southwest winds transport warmer air into the region. A downslope component will also add a boost to temperatures...and highs should reach the 50s across all of western and central Nebraska. Tonight...southwest winds will stay up a bit...and this will help keep temperatures relatively mild. Lows will range from the middle 20s southwest to lower 30s north central. Monday...a cold front will slip south into the northern plains...and just ahead of the front west to southwest winds will really help the area warm nicely. Expecting 60s area wide...with perhaps a 70 degree reading from southwest into west central Nebraska just ahead of the front. By late Monday afternoon and evening...will maintain the slight chance probability of precipitation for an isolated T-storm across the Panhandle. Latest 00z NAM continues to indicate some weak middle level instability...it also indicates some surface based instability...but feel the 50s dew points it develops during the afternoon ahead of the cold front across the southern Panhandle and southwest Nebraska are way overdone. Actually having a hard time finding much for a trigger at this point...but there will likely be enough ascent ahead of the trough digging into the northern rockies that an isolated storm cannot be ruled out. Front moves through the area early Monday evening...with cooler conditions Tuesday and Wednesday. Models continue to dig a trough southward through The Rockies and into the Southern Plains Tuesday into Wednesday. Best lift/dynamics stay west and southwest of the area...but some light precipitation remains a possibility across the western half of Nebraska. Ridging to move east into the plains by late week with a return to warmer weather once again. && Aviation...for the kvtn and klbf terminals through 12z Monday... Ridging aloft will build into the Central Plains over the next 24 hours with unlimited visibilities and clear skies expected. Some thin invading cirrus cloudiness at or above 25000 feet above ground level will begin to spread into western Nebraska after 06z tonight && Lbf watches/warnings/advisories...none. && $$ Discussion...Taylor aviation...buttler
