Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Cheyenne Wyoming
250 am MST sun Nov 23 2008

Short term...today through Monday night...upper trough moving across region
mainly this morning. Leading piece of energy has moved quickly east
across region overnight...taking the majority of the clouds with it.
Still expecting the clouds/few showers over southern Montana to drop southeastward
across area later this morning. Cold front moving into far northern
parts of area at 3 am...should be through most spots by about middle
morning. Winds should pick up behind the front...but remain below
any hilite criteria. Main chance of precipitation is in the mountains through midday.
Tonight should see clearing skies and decrsg winds in the eveng.
Large upper ridge then shifts east into the region for Monday into Monday
night with warmer air spilling back into the area on Monday.

Long term...Tuesday through Saturday...

Tuesday...another mild day with high temperatures in the 40s west
with middle 50s to middle 60s east as the ridge axis moves into Nebraska.

Wednesday...GFS now shows non-descript upper flow across Wyoming
with increase in low and middle level moisture across Carbon
County...thus chance of snow there. Still relatively mild again with
1000-500 mb thicknesses near 5520 meters.

Thanksgiving...colder day in the wake of the cold frontal passage.
It now appears that most of the snow will remain south of Wyoming
closer to the closed upper trough over southern Colorado and with
Wyoming in the drier North Branch of the upper trough over North
Dakota.

Friday...looks like another cool day with 1000-500 mb thicknesses
near 5320 meters and high temperatures in the 30s. Will be a
relatively quiet day for traveling or shopping as our counties will
lie in the dry north flow aloft associated with the trough aloft
over Minnesota.

Saturday...our counties will be in the col aloft with the closed
upper trough over the southwest United States too far west to have
any significant influence on Wyoming and Nebraska weather. Continued
cool with high temperatures in the 30s to lower 40s with 1000-500 mb
thicknesses near 5370 meters. Rubin
