Wind Advisory  Statement as of 3:13 PM CDT on March 20, 2010

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening...

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening.

A strong cold front pushing through south central Texas this
morning will bring blustery north winds to the region today.
Northerly winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts
of 35 to 45 mph behind the cold front. Therefore a Wind Advisory
is in effect from 6 am until 8 PM this evening. Winds will
subside to 15 to 20 mph after 8 PM.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 26 to 39 mph are
expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Fire Weather Advisory  Statement as of 7:56 PM CDT on March 20, 2010

... Fire Weather Watch is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has cancelled
the Fire Weather Watch for Sunday.

Relative humidity values and 20-foot level winds are expected to
briefly reach critical levels only over a small area of the
Southern Hill country Sunday afternoon... where some of the higher
recent rainfall totals have been noted over the past 30 days. Near
critical conditions will remain possible... mainly over southern
and western portions of south central Texas where rainfall amounts
have been lighter. If winds are to increase a few mph over the
current forecast for these western areas... critical fire weather
conditions may be possible for a few hours. Meanwhile... areas
generally east of San Antonio should expect more windy
conditions... but should see minimum rh values remain above 20
percent.

Discussion...
middle to upper level ridging to keep south central Texas under a
subsidence northwesterly flow for 24 to 36 hours before it turns
more westerly (zonal flow) during Monday afternoon/evening.

Surface high pressure will continue to build across central Texas
tonight while it moves southeastern and then into the Gulf of
Mexico late Monday into Tuesday.

This weather setup will give US pleasant weather conditions for
the next few days while northwesterly wind flow will keep the
local area under a cold air mass...with high temperatures expected
to be around the middle 60s on Sunday...but low temperatures to be
near freezing on Sunday morning and once again on Monday morning.

By Monday afternoon into Tuesday...the zonal flow mentioned above
will build in while a surface returning flow is expected. This
will bring back seasonal Spring temperatures for much of next week.

A cold front is anticipated to come across the local area Wednesday
afternoon/evening continuing through Thursday...increasing the
chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms across south
central Texas...but much likely to The Hill Country...northeast
and east of the County Warning Area. Significant rainfall amounts are not expected
at this time in association with this system.

For the record...preliminary 24 hour storm total rainfall amounts
measured as frontal passage went by the area:

0.49 inches at New Braunfels Municipal Airport
0.59 inches at San Antonio International Airport
0.69 inches at Austin international Airport
1.05 inches at Camp Mabry
