NWS Forecaster Discussion
830 fxus64 koun 220519 afdoun Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 1119 PM CST Friday Nov 21 2008 Aviation... little or no cloud cover with S winds generally 8-14 knots. Will be watching SC over S Texas now getting into ncentral Texas... but current thinking is that it will remain southeast of the taf sites except for maybe a brief scattered/broken around 3-4k feet at ksps up until 06z. Increase in elevated moisture may be enough for a few cumulus on Sat ncentral Texas into central OK. && Previous discussion... /issued 955 PM CST Friday Nov 21 2008/ Update... the only change to the forecast made this evening was to lower overnight min temperatures a little. Most areas were not changed at all...but forecast minimum temperatures were reduced a few degrees in areas of northern OK where the numbers from the previous forecast will be reached shortly. Minimum temperatures were also brought down a little across western North Texas. Hourly temperature grids were altered accordingly. Previous discussion... /issued 553 PM CST Friday Nov 21 2008/ Aviation... no aviation concerns tonight. South wind will continue through the next 24 hours... but pressure gradient relaxes in the west tomorrow compared to today and so winds should not be too high. Very dry atmosphere so few if any clouds expected. Previous discussion... /issued 204 PM CST Friday Nov 21 2008/ Discussion... single digit dewpoints have developed in southeast portions of the forecast area this afternoon. With the dry air and lighter winds expected in this area... temperatures will likely fall quickly tonight and may be one of the coldest spots of the forecast area. Southerly winds will continue over the weekend. Gulf moisture will spread northward into the area Saturday in the southerly flow. Meanwhile... a middle and upper level trough will move across the plains this weekend dragging a cold front across the forecast area Sunday. This airmass will be mainly Pacific in origin so not expected to be as cold as what affected the area yesterday and today. With the increasing moisture... there will be a chance of a few rain showers across mainly the southeast third of the forecast area Sunday/Sunday night. Low clouds and possibly fog/drizzle will also affect portions of the forecast area Sat night/Sunday. Models show upper ridge affecting the plains early next week as system digs south along the West Coast. Models show warm air advection developing across the Southern Plains Thursday ahead of this system... with the system moving through the area Friday. With the warm air advection and then the actual system over the area... showers and maybe some thunderstorms will be possible Thursday and Friday across the forecast area. && Preliminary point temps/pops...
