Discussion...

The winter storm that impacted much of the region the past 24
hours was coming to an end Sunday afternoon. A few areas of
freezing rain persisted in far southwest Missouri. A deep closed
low located over southern Arkansas will migrate slowly to the east
tonight. Precipitation will continue to wrap around this system
into southern Missouri into the evening before tapering off
overnight. Persistent rainfall will continue the risk of localized
flooding across far southern Missouri. Temperatures will hover
near freezing over the western Ozark Plateau west of Highway 65.
This may lead to pockets of freezing rain this evening but
additional accumulations look to be minor. However temperatures
will fall to or just below freezing late tonight causing some
refreezing on secondary roads and bridges.

Preliminary discussion...Monday through next Sunday...some precipitation may linger
over the far eastern County warning forecast area early Monday morning...otherwise should
see clearing from west to east Monday as the cutoff upper low
continues to shift east. Have generally gone with NAM MOS and
made some small adjustments to account for snow/melting snow over
the western County warning forecast area.

The southern stream of the midlatitude flow will be
somewhat amplified but progressive through this period. There is decent
agreement on the timing of upcoming systems that will give US rain
chances...one on Wednesday night-Thursday night...then another late Sat-
Sunday. The weekend system looks a bit stronger then the midweek
system...enough to mention thunder.

Aviation...

The southwest Missouri airports will begin to experience some
improving flight conditions over the next 24 hours. A storm system
that brought rain and snow to the region will continue to exit
east.

Lingering rain will persist over the Branson Airport into the early
morning hours...while a rain shower or two in Springfield can not be
ruled out. Ceilings at both of these airports will remain IFR to
MVFR through the morning...while joplins ceiling will improve to VFR
shortly after midnight.
